GAME FILM – POSTGAME INTERVIEWS – The College of Staten Island Dolphins earned a 5-0 victory this afternoon against the Yeshiva University Maccabees at the CSI Soccer Complex for the 2016 CSI Fall Classic. With the win the Dolphins improve to 3-0 on the year, the first time under Coach John Tardy, and have yet to concede a goal. The last time the Dolphins started their season 3-0 without conceding a goal was back in 1999, where they opened the season with, 8-0, 1-0, 2-0 victories.
Marcin Klim continues to shine coming off the bench and has collected six goals in just two games. Klim gave the Dolphins four goals this afternoon including a stunning scissor kick for his fourth goal of the game and sixth of the season.
The Dolphins opened the game sluggish which allowed Yeshiva to find attempts on net early and often, however the Dolphins’ back line and new goal keeper, Jake Foeldes were up to the task of keeping their third clean sheet. CSI would eventually find their groove and once they did, they started finding the back of the net. Klim came on as a substitute in the 21st minute of the game and it took only 9 minutes to put the Dolphins up 1-0. Klim received the ball from Ali Fares from the right side to put him on a breakaway against the keeper where he was able to tuck it away on the right side.
Just two minutes later the goal poaching Klim once again found the ball off of corner kick by Nermin Kurtesi and was able to head it home to give the Dolphins a 2-0 lead. The Dolphins had officially settled into the game and the early chances by the Maccabees disappeared as the Dolphins controlled the ball for the rest of the game. Klim would return the favor as three minutes later he would slot one through to Kurtesi who would bury it for his second goal of the season.
CSI came out in the second half and continued to hang onto the ball and limit Yeshiva’s opportunities. The Dolphins’ brick wall of a back line was able to hold the Maccabees to just one shot in the whole second half. Ruben Diaz, one of the Dolphins’ captains, took a hard tackle in the 72nd minute of the game which earned Dan Cohen from Yeshiva his second yellow which ejected him from the game. In all there were 9 cards issued in this game, four to CSI, and five for Yeshiva. Klim would score his fourth goal of the game in the 86th minute off an early cross from George Espinoza where he would scissor kick it home.
The Dolphins would outshoot the Maccabees 27-6 while also edging them out 9-2 in corner kicks. The Dolphins despite receiving less cards had 21 fouls called on them compared to just 16 for the Maccabees.
CSI will return to action on Friday, September 9 when they will take on Rowan University at 2pm at the CSI Soccer Complex. As always, if you can’t make the game you can watch live at www.csidolphins.com/csisportsnet
