After an idle week the Dolphins got back to work last week and played six games, and for their efforts Jacqueline Cautela and Patricia Riches collected another set of awards. Senior Jacqueline Cautela took home Pitcher of the Week honors, her third of the season, while freshman Patricia Riches grabbed her fourth CUNYAC Rookie of the Week honor. The Dolphins went 6-0 last week, and have now won 15-straight games.
Cautela had a phenomenal week is what is amounting to be a banner season. Cautela went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three complete game shutouts. First she helped her team score a 7-1 win over Purchase, and then a gritty, 1-0, shutout over Western Connecticut before she followed up with a blanking of Hunter College, 10-0. For she is 9-0 with a national best 0.12 ERA. She has not allowed an earned run in 51 straight innings of work. Cautela is also approaching career records for wins, innings pitched, and strikeouts. Despite the award for pitching, Cautela is also getting the job done at the plate where she is batting .429 with a team best seven doubles and is second on the team in hits, RBI, and walks.
Perhaps no one is having a bigger season at the plate this season than Riches. The freshman shortstop had another outstanding week and is among the national leaders in hitting. This week she batted .588 with four RBI and seven runs scored. She added a double and three triples with two walks and a trio of stolen bases. For the season she is batting .582 leading the team in hits (39), doubles (7), triple (3), homers (3), RBI (25) and slugging percentage (.910).
The Dolphins are on a roll and are looking to stay hot. The team travels to face Farmingdale on Monday, following by a road test at Baruch on Tuesday, followed by a home doubleheader against Montclair State on Thursday.
