Highly decorated College of Staten Island men’s swimming senior Timothy Sweeney has been named an All-ECAC selection to close out the 2016-17 athletic year, it was announced yesterday. Sweeney and a collection of Dolphins participated in the ECAC Open Championships in early March, coming in 18th place in their final action of the season.
For his efforts in the 100-yard Backstroke event at the Open, Sweeney merited the All-ECAC honor. Sweeney raced in at 50.39 to qualify for finals during preliminary heats, and then backed it up with a sixth-place finish in the Finals with an even better time of 49.84. He was the top swimmer among all NCAA Division III racers that evening.
Sweeney was the CUNYAC’s top male swimmer for the second year in a row in 2016-17, earning the Championship Meet MVP for the fourth-straight year. He also graduated with honors, earning the conference’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year citation as well.
