The College of Staten Island women’s tennis team is kicking off it’s 2017 season officially this afternoon, welcoming in CUNYAC-rivals Hunter College to the CSI Tennis Center for a 12 Noon matinee.  This is Hunter’s third attempt to play this season, as their first two matches were washed out due to rain.

CSI vs. HUNTER COLLEGE AT-A-GLANCE
Matchup:  CSI (0-0, 0-0 CUNYAC) vs. Hunter College (0-0, 0.0)
Where: CSI Tennis Center – 2800 Victory Boulevard, Staten Island, NY
All-Time Series:  Hunter leads, 22-12
Last Year’s Meeting:  CSI defeated HC twice, 6-3 & 5-0
Players to Watch (CSI):  CUNYAC All-Star Tristiana Adragna returns for CSI after a terrific freshman campaign last year that saw her win the most singles matches of any Dolphin.  Look for her to move up in the lineup this season.  The Dolphins are also welcoming back Samantha Maizer.  A Rookie of the Year candidate in 2015, Maizer did not play in 2016, but returns this year refueled and ready to lead the team.  Newcomer Mariah DeGuia is expected to be a fixture in the lineup as well.  Look for her to have an immediate impact as CSI eyes a title in 2017.
Players to Watch (HC): The Hawks are returning seven of 10 players from last year’s roster, including leading singles player Maria Kogrova, who had a quality freshman campaign a year ago.  Also back is Catherine Ng who picked up a trio of wins last year.
News and Notes:  The Dolphins were able to take two matches off of Hunter last year as the Hawks suffered a disappointing 2-9 campaign.  No strangers to one-another, these two teams have met six times in the CUNYAC postseason in the last 9 years.  CSI has won four of the last five matches and six of the last eight.  Prior to that, Hunter had won 15-straight over the Dolphins from 2001-12.  The Dolphins are 9-12 all-time at home against Hunter.  CSI has won its opener three of the last four years.
