The College of Staten Island women’s basketball squad used a strong second half to remain perfect in CUNYAC, rolling to a 76-46 win over Baruch College on the road in Manhattan. CSI improved to 10-2 overall and 5-0 in the conference while the Bearcats fell to 2-7, 2-2, respectively.
A back-and-forth start saw the home team take a modest, 5-4, lead in the opening stages, but the Dolphins responded with a 15-4 run to end the final six minutes of the first quarter. Senior pair Christina Pasaturo and Samantha Flecker accounted for 13 of the points, started by a Flecker three and two more three’s by Pasaturo.
CSI nursed the lead until halftime, staying up by the half 32-23.
It wasn’t until the second half the Dolphins put considerable distance between the sides. A three-pointer by Angelique Price started a 17-2 run. Flecker would put in three straight markers while Pasaturo and Price added three’s.
A pair of Sameera Ahmed free-throws cut CSI’s lead to 61-37, but a quick, 8-0, response from CSI shut the door. That improved CSI’s lead to a game-high 71-39, with CSI ultimately winning by 30.
Flecker led the way for the Dolphins with 23 points, adding a team-high nine rebounds and three steals. Pasaturo drained six three’s, finishing with 22 points and five rebounds. Price finalized with 11 points. Melinda Spahiu finished with 12 points for the Bearcats, with Shannon Barrett adding 10 points with 13 rebounds.
