Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island women’s basketball team concluded their 2017-18 regular season tonight with a 101-62 win over Yeshiva University. The Dolphins won their fourth straight to improve to 20-5 overall while the Maccabees fell to 4-20.

The Dolphins are locked into the no. 2 seed heading into the CUNYAC Postseason Tournament which carries a first-round bye in the Semifinal Round of the Postseason. The Dolphins will await the winner of the Baruch vs Lehman game to see who they will face in the Semifinal Round, both teams were swept by the Dolphins in the regular season.

For the Dolphins, it was business as usual tonight against the Maccabees, Christina Pasaturo returned to her prominent scoring form, leading all scorers with 28 points on just under 50% shooting. Samantha Flecker tallied her third straight double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Victoria Crea added a season-high 16 points and five assists.

Jacquelyn Cali added 13 points and eight rebounds while Megan McEwan caught fire in the second quarter en route to a career-high 14 points.

Staten Island let Yeshiva University hang around for the first quarter, leading just 20-14 after the first stanza. Yeshiva found second-chance opportunities inside the paint thanks to Michal Alge who pulled down 15 rebounds, seven of which were offensive in tonight’s contest. The second quarter the Dolphins took the game over and put the game out of reach for the Maccabees. Although Yeshiva kept it within arm’s reach for the first part of the second quarter, however, a 20-3 run by the Dolphins shut the door on Yeshiva.

The run started with 6:44 left in the second quarter and lasted exactly five minutes until there was 1:55 remaining in the half. A slew of turnovers by Yeshiva led to the large swing in points for the Dolphins as they were able to use their speed to charge down the court to score 16 fast break points.

Flecker started off the third quarter with a corner three for the Dolphins to increase their lead to 33. Rosa Perone gave the Dolphins their largest lead of the game when she placed one off of the backboard to extend their lead to a game-high 49 points. Staten Island would go on to score just 11 points in the final stanza after they opted to waste the shot clock before taking a shot which allowed Yeshiva to outscore Staten Island 17-11 in the fourth quarter.

The Dolphins will return to action Wednesday, February 21 for the CUNYAC Semifinal at CCNY.
