The College of Staten Island softball team wrapped up a 4-0 week last week with an eventful weekend and for their effort two Dolphins were heralded with weekly awards. Sophomore Jamie Holmes took home CUNYAC Player of the Week honors, while senior hurler Nicolette Trapani was named Pitcher of the Week.
Holmes enjoyed a sensation week with four games played. In the doubleheader against St. Joseph’s College (LI), she went 3-3 with two doubles in a 7-2 win in game two of that doubleheader adding two RBI and two runs scored. The next day against Lehman, she was 2-3 in game one with a run scored and then followed it up with a 2-4 performance with three RBI and two runs scored adding another double. For the week she was 7-for-12 at the plate with five RBI and five runs scored and three doubles, good for a .583 average. That lifted her season batting average to .290.?
Over in the circle, Trapani was lights-out in two games. On Friday against SJC, Trapani was sterling in a 1-0 win, going the distance, yielding eight hits while fanning eight, keeping the consistent lineup off of the scoreboard. On Saturday, she followed up with a modified, five-inning, performance against Lehman College, leading the team to an 11-1 victory, striking out nine batters while surrendering just three hits. The victories were her first of the season, and Trapani is now 2-4 overall with a 2.86 ERA, tops on the team.
The Dolphins have seen a series of games this week wiped out due to weather but are hopeful to get back out on the diamond on Thursday, when they face off against William Paterson in a doubleheader.
