For the first time in school history, the College of Staten Island have taken home conference weekly honors from the City University of New York Athletic Conference.  Deavion Brown was the CUNYAC winner for Female Track Athlete of the Week, while Jordan Thompson earned the CUNYAC’s Male Rookie of the Week honor.

CSI participated in the heavily-contested New York City Division III Invitational at The Armory in Manhattan, hosted by New York University.  There, Brown was easily the most decorated CSI athlete at the showcase.  The former Cross-Country Athlete of the Week during the fall, Brown was CSI’s lone point scorer in two events.  After posting a time of 8.09 in the 60-meter preliminaries, she backed it up with a run of 7.98 in the final heat, scoring a third-place finish among 76 racers.  Later, she earned a sixth place finish in the 200-meter race with a time of 26.83 in the field of 90 runners.  For her efforts Brown was also named the CSI Female Athlete of the week this week on csidolphins.com.

On the men’s side, Thompson made his first appearance as a CUNYAC weekly winner.  Thompson was a part of three events at the NYC Division III Invitational.  In the 200-meter, he placed 33rd in a field of 85 with a time of 23.98 and then in the 400-meter he posted a time of 55.39 which was good enough for 42nd in the field of 63.  As a part of the Distance Medley Relay, he joined teammates Liam McMunn, Jaron Thompson and David Outlaw with a time of 11:31.97 to place 5th overall., earning CSI their lone points in the meet.

CSI’s next official indoor stop will be this weekend, when they travel to New Haven, Connecticut, to participate in the Yale University Invitational.  Meet time is scheduled for 10:00 am on Saturday, February 9.
