Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island women’s tennis team capped their 2018-19 campaign this afternoon, falling at home to NCAA Division II Molloy College by an 8-1 count at the CSI Tennis Center. The Dolphins fell to 3-9 overall with the loss, while the Lions of Molloy improved to 6-4.
CSI’s lone win in this match came in Doubles play in the No. 3 position. Before that, the Molloy team of Montaine Le Goupil-Maier and Samantha Bloecker were able to get by CSI’s Tristiana Adragna and Hannah Bruschi, 6-1, and the Molloy duo of Megan Scali and Katie Alexanderson scored a 6-2 win over Guetanie Romain and Lorianna Fernandez.
That then focused play to the No. 3 position, where CSI’s Mariah DeGuia and Iris Cule were locked in a fight with Briana Gonzalez and Alyssa Germaine.
Going back-and-forth, the two teams finally ended with a 6-6 draw, forcing a seven-point tiebreak scenario. Thanks to a great start, DeGuia and Cule were able to get passed the duo, 7-5, giving CSI the win there.
Even with the win, however, Molloy proved too strong. They would sweep Singles to take an 8-1 win overall. CSI’s Bruschi had a very eventful match with MC’s Scali. Bruschi was crisp in a 6-3 win in the first set, but Scali roared back with a 6-2 win in the second. In the 10-point tiebreak, Scali stayed strong, and was able to take the match, 10-4.
