The College of Staten Island men’s soccer team, coming off their finest season in program history, has unveiled their 2019 slate of games, one that hopes to be packed with plenty of promise and an opportunity to build on the great foundation laid in 2018.
CSI’s 2019 lineup is one lop-sided with road tests. The Dolphins will play nine of their 16 contests in opponent territory, with another against Rowan University on September 7, taking place on neutral territory at Rutgers-Camden. CSI will open up at home on August 30 against Ramapo College.
Eight of the Dolphins’ contests will be against the familiar CUNYAC. They start that lineup at home on September 25 against Medgar Evers College and finalize on the road against John Jay College at Randall’s Island on October 23. Of their 16 total contests, four will be series openers, as CSI takes on Concordia (9/11), Adelphi University (9/13), St. Thomas Aquinas College (9/16), and Wilmington University (10/9) for the very first time. The only NCAA Division II program that CSI will face that they have some familiarity with is the East Coast Conference’s Mercy College, who they are winless against in three tries, having last played in 1988.
Should the Dolphins be granted admission to the NCAA Division II ranks, they would be ineligible for the CUNYAC Postseason, making a highlighted regular-season matchup against defending Champs Baruch College on October 16 at Randall’s Island. The two teams played for the regular season title last season, a 4-0 CSI win, but Baruch returned the favor in the Tournament Championship with a win in penalty kicks after a 2-2 draw.
