The Faculty Center for Professional Development would like to invite you to participate in one of the virtual training and/or drop-in sessions being offered during the week of Monday, Aug.t 31 to Friday, Sept. 4:

  • Keeping Synchronous Sessions Secure w/ Bb Collaborate: This workshop will review the set-up steps necessary to ensure the security of your synchronous class sessions. It will go over how to provide access from within the confines of your online classroom so that your students are only entering your synchronous class sessions from the secure environment of your Blackboard Course shell. As a general rule, emailed guest links should never be used as your main access point into your course’s synchronous sessions. Guest links are public links. They can be shared with anyone via email and/or posted publicly on social media, leaving your course session vulnerable to unwanted outside participants. Help ensure that only your registered students have access to your synchronous course sessions by learning how to create internal access points from the secured safety of your Bb course.
  • Blackboard LMS: Basic Skills and Common Tasks:  This workshop will introduce instructors to the most common features and tools in Blackboard used for teaching at CSI. It will cover topics such as orienting your course menu, creating course content, asynchronous and synchronous interaction and communication, and assessment using the Bb Grade Center. Please refer to the course schedule below for the modules and topics that will be covered. It will be presented in conjunction with the Fall 2020 cohort of the Bb Basics Course and the Faculty Center’s Remote Course Build Resource Center.
  • Faculty Center Virtual Drop-in Center: In addition to this week’s workshops, the Faculty Center Virtual Drop-in Center will also be open twice daily from 10:00am to 11:00am and again at 6:30pm to 8:00pm, Monday – Friday. As with the workshops, Drop-in Sessions can be accessed via the direct links below, or by using the Virtual Drop-in Center button located on the main page of the Faculty Center Info Hub (CSI) Bb Organization, which is available to all teaching faculty at CSI.

There is no sign-up needed to participate in any of the sessions listed below. To attend, simply click on the access link provided next to the session date/time you want to attend anytime within 15 minutes of the start of the workshop. Once clicked, Blackboard Collaborate will appear at the top of the screen. It will show the specific training session you are joining and offer a place for you to type your name (please enter both your first and last name to ensure that you receive credit for having attended). Select Join Session after typing your full name.
