Many majors at CSI require students to achieve an intermediate level of proficiency in a foreign language. Students are encouraged to discuss the language requirement with their college adviser to find out how many semesters of language study are required for their specific program of study. Students whose CSI official records indicate a foreign high school degree from a non-English speaking country will receive an automatic exemption from the foreign language requirement. Students who have previously studied one of the languages taught at CSI or are heritage speakers of one of the languages taught at CSI, should plan to take the online Fast Track Exam to be “fast-tracked” and reduce the number of semesters of language study required.
How do I take the Fast Track Exam?
- Chinese Mandarin, French, Italian, or Spanish: Place a request through this online form.
- Arabic: Contact Professor Abouelkhair via email at hager.abouelkhair@csi.cuny.edu.
- American Sign Language contact Professor Rosen via email at russell.rosen@csi.cuny.edu.
To discuss the possibility, if any, of testing in languages other than the languages above, students should contact Professor Ureni at paola.ureni@csi.cuny.edu.
