After debuting a new-look awards dinner in 2024, CSI Athletics hosted the 2025 Finnies at The Tank last Friday night. The Finnies was a concept planned during the spring of 2020 with the intention to debut the event in May of that year. When the COVID-19 pandemic halted those plans, end-of-year awards moved online for four seasons from 2020-2023. The Finnies came to life for the first time in at Le Grecci’s Staaten in 2024, and this year’s Finnies marked the second in what will be an annual event on the CSI Athletics calendar. Last week’s event, put together through collaboration between the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and CSI Athletics administrators, welcomed over 200 guests including CSI student-athletes, coaches, and staff.
Athletic Communications Coordinator Joseph Foreman and CSI Social Media Manager Nicholas Durst once again co-hosted the event this year. They were also joined by a third co-host in Joseph Calabrese, another CSI staffer and co-host of the You Know I’m Right podcast alongside Durst. In addition to the awards given by the coaches of each team, department award-winners were chosen from among the team award-winners selected by each of the coaches. All department award-winners, with the exception of Highlight of the Year and the Pillar of Support award, were voted on by a group of CSI Athletics administrators.
The event opened with introductory remarks from Foreman, Durst, Calabrese, and SAAC President Emily Albano. Student Government President Adrian Rosales and CSI Director of Athletics Matthew Scally then took the podium delivering an address to the student-athletes in attendance. Foreman then returned to the podium to present the Highlight of the Year candidates as voting for the winner of that award opened on the CSI Dolphins Instagram account. Next, Foreman provided a season-in-review recap for each program as Durst and Calabrese announced the team award-winners selected by the coaches.
After the announcement of each team’s award-winners, the winners of the CSI Athletics department awards were announced. Those winners culminated with the naming of Jenalyse Alarcon as the Female Athlete of the Year and both Yubal Parra as Chris Polemeni as Male Co-Athletes of the Year. Following closing remarks from Foreman, the Finnies concluded with a video recapping the last year of CSI Athletics.
