The College of Staten Island continues to earn national distinction for its growing impact on global scholarship, emerging as one of the country’s leading producers of Fulbright U.S. Scholars among master’s-level institutions for the 2025–2026 academic year.

With two faculty members selected for the prestigious Fulbright Program, CSI was tied with nine other institutions for the fifth-highest number of Fulbright Scholar awards in its category nationwide in 2025-2026, placing the College in the upper tier of master’s institutions contributing to one of the world’s most competitive academic exchange programs.

What is perhaps more impressive is CSI’s consistency in the category, having garnered 12 Fulbright awards over the last decade, underscoring the strength of its faculty, the depth of its academic programs, and its growing reputation for global engagement and scholarly excellence.

“Our Fulbright Scholar awards speak to the caliber of scholarship at the College of Staten Island,” said CSI President Dr. Timothy G. Lynch. “They reflect our faculty’s commitment to academic excellence, global engagement, and the meaningful exchange of ideas across borders. We are proud to be a leader in this category and look forward to continuing to serve as global ambassadors of knowledge around the globe.”

Administered by the U.S. Department of State, the Fulbright Program is one of the most selective and respected international exchange initiatives in the world, supporting educators and researchers as they conduct research, teach, and build partnerships abroad. Fulbright Scholars are chosen based on academic merit, leadership potential, and their ability to foster mutual understanding between the United States and other countries.

CSI’s success this year reflects a continued institutional commitment to supporting faculty in pursuing transformative research and international collaboration. The recognition also highlights the College’s role in preparing scholars who contribute meaningfully to global conversations across disciplines.

“I see this as a powerful reflection of who we are as an institution, as it reflects both the excellence of our faculty and our deep commitment to global engagement,” said Dr. Nathalia Holtzman, Interim Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. “This work not only elevates our institution, but also enriches the educational experience of our students, strengthens the communities we serve, and reinforces our role as a campus engaged in meaningful, internationally connected scholarship.”

As CSI continues to expand its global footprint, achievements like these reinforce its standing as a hub for academic excellence and international scholarship, demonstrating that even a relatively small number of awardees can place the institution among the nation’s most impactful contributors to the Fulbright mission.
