April is CUNY Disability Awareness Month and CSI’s Office of Accessibility Services (OAS) will be hosting a series of events to recognize the observance.
“Disability Awareness Month is an opportunity to recognize the experiences, contributions, and rights of people with disabilities, while also highlighting the ongoing need for accessibility, inclusion, and equity,” says Stefan Charles-Pierre, Director of OAS.
On April 14, the Office held a Disability Ally Training session, giving attendees a chance to learn how to advocate on behalf of people with disabilities, not only on campus, but in the broader community.
OAS and CUNY LEADS will host a workshop on launching your career on April 21 in the Center for the Arts and via Zoom, offering information to prepare for the upcoming LEADS Job Fair at Hunter College on April.
On April 23, participants can hear from OAS alumni about their career success and lives, post-CSI, via Zoom at 2:30pm, at the LEADS Alumni Panel.
RSVP for any of these events on CSI Connect.
Charles-Pierre notes that “Disability Awareness Month on campus helps build a campus culture that values diversity in all its forms and ensures that disability is understood.
“It encourages communities to challenge stigma, remove barriers, and foster environments where everyone can fully participate,” he says.
