Sal Todaro led the Dolphins with four hits, two RBI and five runs scored in the two wins over the Bears.
The Dolphins captured two wins over St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn at the CSI Baseball Complex on Saturday afternoon. CSI took an 11-4 victory over the Bears in the first game while taking a 9-2 win to complete the doubleheader. The Dolphins capture a 4-3 record for the season.
The Bears didn’t waste any time posting two runs on three hits in the top of the first inning; powered by a Michael Cundari RBI double to left field. A single by Joe Mendez and an error by the Dolphins Luis Ortiz helped the bears score their final run of the inning to jump ahead 2-0. However, the Dolphins responded with one run in their bottom half of the first. With two outs in the inning, Bryan Moreno doubled to center field and later scored off of a wild pitch to cut the score to 2-1.
The top of the second inning for the bears missed a chance to extend their lead as they left three runners on base. The Dolphins, on the other hand, blew it open in their bottom half of the second scoring seven runs on three hits. A couple of walks by Sal Todaro and Joe Cassano dictated the start of a big inning for the Dolphins as a walk later in the inning by Joseph Innocente scored a run to tie the game at two apiece. After a Luis Ortiz single scored two runs to put the Dolphins ahead, 4-2, another walk and a hit by pitch by the Bears Elvis Diaz gave the Dolphins a 5-2 advantage. A Frank Smith single (his second of the inning) ballooned the lead to five as the Dolphins took an 8-2 lead entering the top the of the third. The third inning for both teams saw zero runs.
The Bears cut into the Dolphins lead in the top of the fourth scoring two runs on an error by the Dolphins Ortiz that scored both runs for the Bears to cut the lead to, 8-4. The Dolphins responded quickly in their bottom half of the fourth posting two runs with RBI singles by Todaro and Will Difede that increased the Dolphins lead, 10-4. The top of the fifth, sixth, and seventh inning for the Bears only saw one hit. The Dolphins bottom of the fifth and sixth pushed their lead by one run, 11-4, off a Chris Omundsen sixth inning RBI single.
The Dolphins were led by Todaro’s three walks and one hit. Bryan Moreno added two hits and an RBI while Ortiz chipped in with two RBI’s. Thomas McKenna led the way with three of the eight hits for Bears while Chris Cutrone added two RBI’s.
Mike Van Pelt had the win for CSI with four strikeouts in five innings. Anthony Storz and Robert Jannace saw an inning each both striking out one batter to a combined seven batters.

CSI put the game in their hands right away as they scored eight of their nine runs in the bottom of the second inning. Todaro and Smith kicked off the inning with a single each. Difede scored Todaro with a double as Torres got up to hit a double to score Smith and Difede. After Innocente got on with a fielders choice, Ortiz and Lynch both got on with walks. Moreno got up to bat where his Sac Fly knocked in Innocente. Kantzian singled to left field scoring Ortiz. Back to the top of the order, Todaro hit a left field single to score the Dolphins sixth run of the inning. Kantzian scored on a passed ball before Todaro would finish the inning scoring for CSI behind Difede’s single.
The Dolphins added one more run in the fourth as Difede hit an RBI double to bring Todaro home who also got on with a double of his own.
The Bears knocked in a run in the top fifth as McKenna left fields single scored Zaretsky. With three men on the Dolphins got themselves out of the inning . The Bears added just one more run in the sixth after Joe Mendez hit a double and later reached home on the throw from a Mongiori single.
Chris Matusiewicz captured the win on the mound for CSI allowing just five hits and two runs while Matthew Schwartz pitched the final inning in relief with one strikeout against three batters.
The Dolphins will take on Yeshiva University tomorrow, Sunday, March 11th in a 12 noon doubleheader.
