It is with pleasure that we introduce David Allen as the new Director of the Faculty Center for Professional Development, effective Spring 2017. David is an Associate Professor in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching, School of Education. He began teaching at CSI in Fall 2009 after completing his EdD at Teachers College, Columbia University. David holds an MAT from Brown University and a BA from Oberlin College. He has taught at the middle school, high school, college, and adult education levels, and held research appointments at Brown University, Harvard University, and Teachers College, Columbia University. His scholarship and practice have focused on professional learning and professional inquiry for adults, working principally with pre-K-12 educators, as well as with school-level and central office administrators. His most recent books are Facilitating for Learning (with Tina Blythe) and Powerful Teacher Learning: What the Theatre Arts Teach about Collaboration. David has published more than 20 refereed books and articles, and regularly presents nationally and internationally.
Under David’s leadership, the Faculty Center will continue to facilitate and expand professional learning experiences that address the full range of faculty members’ professional responsibilities, with special emphasis on teaching and scholarship. It will provide programs and resources that are timely and useful for the entire faculty of the College, with special outreach to junior and adjunct faculty. David hopes to draw principally on the expertise, interests, and inspiration of CSI faculty members from across the campus, collaborate with other initiatives that relate to faculty development, and maintain a focus on our CSI students and their diversity, strengths, and needs.
Please welcome David and be sure to contact him with your ideas for the Center.
Please also join us in a special thank you to William Bernhardt for his years of service as the past Director. Bill contributed leadership, vision, and much time to the Center. The College is lucky to be able to draw on colleagues like him.
