The College of Staten Island softball team rang their win streak up to seven games, cruising past York College by scores of 14-0, and 15-0 as part of CUNYAC play at Padavan Field in Bellerose, NY, this afternoon.  The Dolphins improved to 13-3 overall and 6-0 within the CUNYAC, while the Cardinals fell to 0-6, 0-4, respectively.  Senior pitcher highlighted a statistic-heavy game with a perfect game tossed in the opener.

GAME ONE
The Dolphins opened the scoring by scratching a run across in the first inning, using a Patricia Riches two-out double, followed by a Vanessa Jioia RBI-single to do the honors.  Cautela then followed by tossing the first perfect inning in the bottom half of the first before CSI exploded in the second frame.

With the bases loaded and just one out, Cautela helped her own cause with a two-run double to left field off of York pitcher Luisana Guzman.  Antoinette Galbo repeated the same play with a another two-run two-bagger to left, making it 5-0.  CSI proceeded to load the bases again due to walks, and with two out, Ashley Notaro then knocked two more runs with a single, making it 7-0 before the Cardinals wiggled out of the inning.

The lead was enough for Cautela, who after three innings, fanned seven batters, and then again in the fourth, CSI wedged into the scoring column again.  After a run came in via error and another on a Julianna Cretella sac fly, Galbo rocked a three-RBI base-clearing double, making it a 12-0 lead.

With many reserves in the game, CSI punctuated things with a three-run fifth frame, the final two runs coming on bases-loaded walks.  In the bottom of the fifth, Cautela induced three straight ground-outs to round out the perfect game, retiring 15 York batters in a row for the win.

Cautela fanned 9 in the win, as CSI out-hit York in the opener, 12-0.  Galbo led the charge with a 3-4 effort at the plate with 6 RBI, tied for the second-highest total ever in CSI single game history.  Guzman took the loss, yielding 12 runs, seven of them earned.

GAME TWO
Unfortunately for the Cardinals, CSI continued to stay hot in teh second match-up, as the Dolphins racked up 17 hits, including six in the first inning alone as CSI took an 8-0 lead before starting pitcher Nicolette Trapani would throw a pitch.

Riches started the scoring with a base-hit that scored Cautela, and two batters later, Kristy Colangelo walked in a run.  Notaro followed with a two-run single to make it 4-0, and after YC starter Dorianny Rojas registered an out, Trapani helped her own cause with a two-RBI triple to make it 6-0.  Cretella followed with another RBI hit.  Three at-bats later, Riches got her second hit and RBI of the inning with another single, scoring Cautela again.

York got their first hit of the afternoon in the first inning as Rojas would single, but she was stranded to end the inning, and then CSI added another five runs on seven hits in the second inning to take a monstrous, 13-0, advantage.  RBI doubles by Colangelo and Cautela highlighted the inning.

Jioia would come in after leading off the third with a double, rounding out the scoring at 14-0.

Trapani took the win for CSI, tossing the first three innings while Alexandra Conanan came in for the final two innings to complete the shared shutout.  CSI out-hit York in the second game, 17-3, led at the dish by Riches, who went 4-4 with three RBI, while Notaro went 2-3 with four RBI.

CSI will next be in action on Thursday, when they travel to William Paterson University for a doubleheader with the Pioneers starting at 3pm.
