Dolphins will need a lot of their arms to come through over the next three days. look for pitchers like Kevin Ryan, Steven Collica, John Esposito, Salvatore Trancucci, and Christian Capellan to get plenty of innings, starting with today’s nine-inning affair.
Players to Watch (BAR): The Bearcats win with defense and great pitching. They are batting just .216 as a team, but are being led at the plate by the strong bat of Gerardo Roque, who is hitting .298, tied for the team-lead with four doubles and is second with 12 RBI. The RBI-leader is Conor McCabe, who has 13 to go with his .264 average. Davic Capellan is hitting .295 and leads BC with 18 hits and 16 runs scored. Look for Kemal Deljanin to create a spark. He is batting .232, but leads his team with Roque with 13 bases on balls and has a team-best eight stolen bases to his credit. Theodore Avgerinos had a great start against the Dolphins this weekend and may get the ball again today. He is 3-0 this season with a 2.31 ERA. Robert Raman may also see innings, along with Matthew Lawlor. Both have also pitched well this season.
News & Notes: On Sunday, Baruch took two heartbreakers from CSI at Westchester Community College by scores of 2-0 and 6-5. The wins broke a CSI seven-game win streak over the Bearcats and was the first Baruch doubleheader sweep of CSI in the program’s history, dating back 110 games since 1978. Baruch has never beaten the Dolphins three times in the same season, so the Dolphins are hoping the crash the history party today. Only the top two CUNYAC teams in the standings make the postseason playoffs this year, and the Dolphins are three games back in the loss column to both Baruch and John Jay with only seven conference games left on their schedule, so this game and every one left for CSI will be incredibly important. As for Baruch, they sit atop the CUNYAC standings with a 4-1 record, and control their own destiny with regards to winning the CUNYAC Regular Season Championship. Despite their doubleheader sweep of CSI on Sunday, Baruch is coming in trying to get back on the winning side of the ledger, having lost a 6-5 decision to Old Westbury on Tuesday. They also have a busy weekend, as they play John Jay for a three-game set on Friday and Saturday.
