Please join the CSI Library’s Archives & Special Collections as Prof. Jorge Matos Valldejuli presents this year’s Archives History Month program, “The Legacy of Race at Willowbrook: Archives and the Power of Representation.” This event will be held in-person in 1L-216 on Thursday, Oct. 27. at 2:30pm (CC CLUE).
Jorge Matos Valldejuli is an Assistant Professor and Reference Librarian at Hostos Community College/CUNY. A former librarian at the Centro de Estudios Puertorriqueños Library & Archives at Hunter College, his research examines the intersections between race, class, and gender in the history of the Willowbrook State School. He has a forthcoming article in the journal Latino Studies titled, “‘Together We Arrived and Together We Shall Leave’: The Gouverneur Parents Association and the Politics of Race and Disability in Postwar New York.” He is also published in the online journal The Activist History Review.
This program is held in observance of American Archives Month, which is observed nationally during October to celebrate and promote the rich documentary heritage of our nation and the importance of archival and historical records to our lives.
