On Monday, the College of Staten Island and Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC) officially launched a strategic partnership designed to enhance healthcare services, athletic care, and educational opportunities across Staten Island.

CSI President Timothy G. Lynch and RUMC President and CEO Daniel J. Messina signed a Letter of Intent, laying the foundation for a collaborative initiative that will benefit students, athletes, families, and the broader Staten Island community.

“This partnership represents a shared commitment to improving lives through education and health,” said Dr. Lynch. “By working together, we are not only investing in our students and staff, but also delivering critical support to families and residents throughout Staten Island.”

Through this alliance, RUMC will begin providing comprehensive sports medicine services to College of Staten Island athletes, including injury prevention programming and return-to-play protocols. At the same time, both institutions will co-develop academic programs in key health disciplines—such as nursing, physical therapy, athletic training, and allied health professions—expanding opportunities for students pursuing careers in healthcare.

The partnership also introduces a range of community-centered initiatives, including on-campus health screenings, wellness workshops, and population health campaigns designed to foster long-term wellness and improve local health outcomes.

“We’re excited to join forces with CSI to deliver programs that will make a real difference across Staten Island,” said Dr. Messina, a proud CSI alumnus and former member of the college’s baseball team. “This is about more than just collaboration—it’s about honoring our shared roots and building a healthier, more connected future for the communities we serve.”

Both institutions view this partnership as a model for how education and healthcare can intersect to meet the evolving needs of their community.

“This is a true game-changer for Staten Island,” added Dr. Lynch. “Together, we’re creating a platform that supports our students, engages families, and strengthens the overall health of our borough.”
