The College of Staten Island Intramural Program wrapped up its first 3-on-3 basketball tournament of the 2012-13 academic year, earlier this afternoon. The number five seeded “Sharks”, as they were named, were crowned the CSI Intramural 3-on-3 basketball champions for the Fall 2012 semester.
The 16 team tournament featured over 80 students whom all played in the 4 week long season before playoffs began in early December. Each team was placed in either Division A or B and played for the top seed of their respective division. By the end of the season each team was seeded one through eight, with playoffs beginning the following week.
After the first week of playoff games, eight teams remained for the following final week of playoff games. Each team would have to battle out three consecutive wins in order to win the championship. The semi-final games featured “Dynasty” VS “Champs” and “Shottas” VS “Sharks”. Dynasty squeezed out a 12-11 win over the Champs, in hard fought battle, while the Sharks pulled out an 11-9 win over the Shottas.
The final game was set as the number one seeded Dynasty (only undefeated team in tournament) took on the number five seeded Sharks. In yet another close, hard fought game, it was the number five seeded Sharks won pulled out the upset, 12-11, and took the fall 2012 CSI Intramural 3-on-3 basketball championship crown.
The spring 2013 semester will feature another 3-on-3 basketball tournament, as well as flag football, volleyball, Indoor Soccer and much more.
