The College of Staten Island men’s tennis squad was back in action this afternoon, falling to Ramapo College by an 8-1 count in non-conference play at the CSI Tennis Center in Staten Island. The loss dipped the Dolphins to 2-5 overall, while the Roadrunners improved to 4-3 overall.
Play began with doubles and CSI did put forth a spirited effort. In the top spot, the team of Timur Shamuradov and Dan Ursomanno put on a great show, winning an 8-6 thriller over the Roadrunners’ Justin Gerstl and Evan Clayton. CSI almost had a chance to take two out of three, but at the No. 2 position the duo of Ed Ruffe and James Chuenpratum fell just short, losing 9-8 (5) to RC’s team of Justin Bevilacqua and Jacob Khodakov.
After taking a 2-1 lead after doubles, it was smooth sailing for Ramapo in singles play. Ramapo took all six flights in straight sets. Ursomanno put up a healthy fight in the pole position, forcing a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, decision to Gerstl.
?The Dolphins will have a break before they get back underway on Sunday, when they travel to face SUNY-Farmingdale in a 1pm start.
