The College of Staten Island women’s tennis team powered to their second-straight win to open the 2014 campaign, staking an 8-1 win over Albertus Magnus College in Connecticut in what was the first meeting in program history between the two sides. The Dolphins improved to 2-0 on the young season, while AMC fell to 0-3.
It was all CSI early, as two doubles teams blanked the opposition to help lift CSI to a 3-0 start. Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert and Madiha Mulla did the honors in the second position while Aziza Jurabaeva and Viktoriya Volkova did the same in flight No. 3. In the top spot, Nozima Toshpulatova and Michelle Kushnir were also efficient in an 8-3 winner over Zaida Velazco and Malika Grant.
When play turned to Singles it was more of the same. CSI scores straight-sets wins at every flight with the exception of No. 3, where Kelsea Wildman took a won for AMC. Mulla (No. 4) and Kushnir (No. 5) both won for the Dolphins by 6-0, 6-0, scores, while Toshpulatova, Bragerton-Nasert, and Volkova all had one-sided wins as well.
