The College of Staten Island women’s soccer team posted four first-half goals, powering to a 5-0 win over City College of New York in non-conference play this morning at Randall’s Island in their regular season finale.  The Dolphins improved to 8-7-2, while the Beavers fell to 9-7.

This was the second meeting between the two teams this year.  In the first meeting that counted towards the CUNYAC standings, CSI took a 1-0 lead when they scored a goal that probably should have been saved by keeper Emily Ramos.  This time CSI did not leave much to debate, scoring early and often in a game that they dominated.

Just 7:38 in, on a long cross by freshman Stephanie Rivera, CSI’s Danielle Alexandrini tallied to give CSI an early, 1-0 edge.  Then, almost seven minutes later, Danielle Smith rocketed in a shot from about 40 yards out, skating one by Ramos.  Smith then fed in a long cross to Alexandrini just four minutes later that the junior hammered home, and just like that, CSI was up 3-0 after just 18 minutes.

CSI added another first half tally from Melissa Gelardi, also on a very long shot.  In the second half, Alexandrini completed her hat trick in the 51st minute off of another Danielle Smith feed, making the score 4-0, and it held till the end of the game.

The Dolphins held a one-sided, 38-5, edge in shots and an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.  Ramos made an outstanding 18 saves, while CSI keeper Victoria Donegan posted three saves in the shutout win.  Smith led all Dolphins with 9 shots, six on goal.

CSI will next be in action as part of the CUNYAC postseason.  They will play No. 3 Lehman College in a game played at Brooklyn College on Wednesday, November 5, at 6:30pm.  In the other semifinal matchup that day, top-seeded and defending champion Brooklyn will play No. 4 CCNY.
