For their achievements in their lone meet last week, College of Staten Island men’s swimming and diving pair Tim Sweeney and John Pignatelli earned weekly citations from the City University of New York Athletic Conference. Sweeney was the conference’s Performer of the Week, while Pignatelli earned Diver of the Week kudos. CSI fell in its lone meet against William Paterson University.
Sweeney was an ace in the meet against the Pioneers. The sophomore took home two first-place finishes in his individual events, including a 1:58.27 faring in the 200-yard Butterfly, a new CSI school record in the event. He also added another top finish in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 1:48.32. Sweeney topped out his night with a second-place showing as part of the squad’s 400-yard Freestyle Relay team.
Equally effective on the boards was senior John Pignatelli. The diver took both first-place honors in his lone meet on both the one-meter and three-meter board. In one-meter competition, Pignatelli topped out at 185.95, and the consistent diver almost duplicated the score in the three-meter, scoring 185.9. Pignatelli was going up against six other divers, making his achievements on the board all the more impressive.
CSI is 2-3 overall this season and 0-1 in conference play. They are idle until December 6, when they travel to face Brooklyn College as part of their CUNYAC schedule.
