After a rousing run through the ECAC Winter Championship this past weekend which saw him excel in four events, College of Staten Island junior Tim Sweeney took home Player of the Week honors for both the CUNYAC and CollegeSwimming.com, it was announced today.  Sweeney was a one man show for the Dolphins, helping lead the team to a 10th-place finish at the event that featured schools spanning all three NCAA Divisions.

Sweeney participated in events on Saturday and Sunday at the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, NY.  On Saturday, he took three top-three finishes, set two new CSI records, and posted an NCAA B-Cut time.  He started in the 200-yard Butterfly event, posting a time of 1:53.26, good for third place overall and an NCAA B-Cut faring.  In Saturday evening competition, Sweeney then set two new CSI records.  First, in the 100-yard Backstroke, he muscled to a 51.79 finish, good for second overall, and later, in the 100-yard Butterfly, he landed another record with a time of 50.28, winning the race outright.

Sweeney finished up his run with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard Individual Medley.  He earned 113 points overall in the meet which was good enough to earn CSI 10th place at the meet.

This was Sweeney’s third CUNYAC Performer of the Week award, and it marked the fourth time he won the honor from CollegeSwimming.com.  Sweeney and his squad will next be in action On Friday, December 18, when they travel to face Lehman College at 6pm.
