The College of Staten Island women’s swimming and diving team had a lone meet a week ago against Hunter College, but they received two awards this week from the CUNYAC for their efforts. Junior Ewa Wojciechowska was awarded Performer of the Week this week while freshman Nouran Abualam was named Diver of the Week. It was the second such honor for both parties.
Wojciechowska has been the leader all year for the Dolphins and last Friday’s meet did not disappoint. After a second place showing in the 200-yard Medley Relay, Wojciechowska shined in the 50-yard Freestyle individually, topping all with a race time of 26.11, beating Hunter College’s Lindsey Perro’s 27.35.
In her final race, Wojciechowska earned another first place finish, this time in the 100-yard Freestyle. The winning time was under a minute at 57.71, blowing away the field by a good seven seconds.
For the season, Wojciechowska leads all Dolphins scorers with 213 total points earned. In individual races she leads the team with 11 first place finishes and a total of 15 top three finishes. She stands second on the team with 9 top three finishes in relay events.
Abualam was a part of the one-meter and three-meter competitions in last week’s meet. On the one-meter platform, Abualam came in second place with a result of 149.25, just six points behind leader Jessica Shaw from CSI. On the three-meter, however, Abualam shined to a result of 153.37, winning the event, and her second Diver of the Week citation of the year.
For the year, Abualam is sixth on the team in total points with 75, and she is third with five first-place finishes, and has 9 top three finishes overall, good for fifth on the team.
The Dolphins will next swim and dive on Friday, December 16. The team will host Lehman College at the Sports & Recreation Center at 6pm.
