I’d like to provide an update on the campus damage and clean-up efforts. Last night, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) visited campus to view the damage sustained during the brief storm that barreled through campus shortly after 4:30pm. OEM thought that the damage may be due to a microburst; a sudden, powerful, localized air current in a downdraft.
This morning, CUNY and their construction arm DASNY arrived on campus to assess the damage. DASNY will manage the tree-removal process; they have identified 13 downed trees and 18 additional unstable trees, all will need to be removed. Efforts to clear the debris began last night and will continue through Monday.
The campus will be open on Sunday, scheduled activities and in-person classes may resume. Please use caution as you travel around campus. Avoid walking through wooded areas and adhere to all Public Safety traffic and redirection routes as we work through the clean-up process.
