U.S. News and World Report has released its 2025 list of the Top Undergraduate Schools and the College of Staten Island has once again seen its name on the list in a host of categories, including as a significant riser in Social Mobility.

CSI’s highest faring in these rankings is as a Top Public School among Regional North Universities (which consist of colleges/universities in ten states and the District of Columbia). CSI ranked No. 37 overall in the field, coming in at No. 101 overall in the category.

CSI’s highest institutional climb was in the category of Social Mobility, which measures how well schools help students improve their socioeconomic status, particularly those from low-income or first-generation backgrounds. CSI ranked No. 82 overall, advancing 15 positions from 2024.

‘This recognition – like that from Forbes last month that listed CSI as a “best value in higher education”- is a testament to the transformational education that students receive from our world-class faculty,” said CSI President Dr. Timothy G. Lynch. “The College of Staten Island is the place where dreams become reality and where every student is provided the opportunity to realize their full potential.”

Alongside its overall institutional ranks, five CSI majors received a top ranking according to U.S. News, led by the undergraduate Engineering programs, which ranked No. 150 nationally. CSI’s Economics programs landed among the nation’s Top 275, while CSI’s undergraduate Psychology programs were the biggest mover, receiving a 22% ranking increase to land among the nation’s Top 350, alongside the Computer Science programs and Nursing programs.

U.S. News ranked more than 1,600 U.S. four-year bachelor’s degree-granting institutions in total, using 17 key measures of academic quality for National Universities and 13 for National Liberal Arts Colleges, Regional Universities and Regional Colleges, among them academic reputation, cost of attendance and return on investment. Based on these metrics, U.S. News said, “The top-ranked schools of this 40th annual edition of Best Colleges provide ample classroom resources for students and faculty; confer bachelor’s degrees at high rates; and produce graduates who entered the workforce with manageable debt and worthwhile starting salaries.”
