The College of Staten Island’s LGBTQ Resource Center and Department of Media Culture, in collaboration with Queer Voices NYC and the Pride Center of Staten Island, will present the Portraits of Queerness Film Series on Friday, March 28, 2025 from 2:30pm to 9:00pm at the Center for the Arts, Room 223.

This exciting event will showcase the diversity and richness of queer experiences through film and media. The program will feature a lineup of short films created by Staten Island-based filmmakers, a panel of industry professionals discussing LGBTQ+ representation in media, and an energetic disco party to celebrate queer culture. The highlight of the event will be the screening of the feature film, Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story, which explores the life and legacy of Jackie Shane, a trailblazing Black transgender soul singer.

The event is free and open to the public. All are welcome to attend and engage in meaningful conversations about queer visibility and storytelling in the media.
