The College of Staten Island men’s volleyball squad was in action for a tri-match at Stevens Institute of Technology, and the Dolphins dropped both ends of the match. First, CSI fell 3-0 to Kean University by scores of 25-15, 25-14, and 25-6, before falling to host Stevens Institute, 3-0, by scores of 25-5, 25-11, 25-9. The Dolphins fell to 6-22 overall with the pair of losses.
The Dolphins just could not get over the tough competition today. CSI only had a single lead in their opener against Kean, and that was a modest, 3-1, advantage, in the second set. Otherwise, Kean kept the Dolphins off-balance, scoring a robust .378 kill percentage while forcing a total of 31 Dolphins errors, as CSI connected on -.174 percentage from the floor.
Shady Taylor and Ed Jedziniak shared the Kean lead with 9 kills apiece while Connor Evans posted six digs. Brian Sheydvasser connected on six kills for CSI, while Ronald Tisbe led all Dolphins with eight digs.
In game two, #1 Stevens Tech showed why they were ranked No. 1 in the nation, powering to the big win. Their balanced attack was led by Dylan Schlosser’s 10 kills against 0 errors. Kevin Aeckerle led the way with 26 assists as well, while Chris Vaughan posted four aces. Song Shin Low tallied four kills to lead CSI, while Tisbe and Sheydvasser posted three digs each.
Up next for CSI is the postseason. The Dolphins will travel to face Hunter College in CUNYAC Quarterfinal play on Tuesday, April 7, at 6pm.
