The College of Staten Island baseball program took on the Roadrunners from Ramapo College in a single 9-inning game this afternoon at the Tomas D. Morales field on the campus of the College of Staten Island in Staten Island, NY. Another early deficit saw the Dolphins fall to the Roadrunners 15-3. The Dolphins lost their fourth straight game and fall to 21-14 on the year while the Roadrunners broke their slump and improved to 27-14.
Ramapo got things started in the first inning with two outs after Rob DeAngelis was caught stealing. Joe Venturino, the Roadrunner’s top hitter, doubled down the left field line and was brought home by the next batter who also doubled which brought home Venturino.
The real chunk of the Roadrunner’s lead came in the fourth inning when the Dolphins committed two costly errors which allowed Ramapo College to score six runs in the fourth to put the lead out of reach for Staten Island.
Staten Island finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning after a couple of changes on the defensive side for Ramapo. Francis Munoz kicked it off for the Dolphins with a single up the middle followed by another single by Bobby Drake. Elijah Rodriguez lined into a double play which slowed the Dolphins’ rally. Staten Island would not be shut out six innings in a row despite having two outs Nick Delprete singled to left field and drove in Munoz for the first Dolphins run of the game.
A pair of pinch hitters drove in two more run for the Dolphins before the Roadrunners closed the door. Ramapo scored five more insurance runs which put the Roadrunners up 15-3 on 15 hits. The Dolphins scored 3 runs on 7 hits and committed five errors in the game.
The Dolphins are back in action Thursday for the CUNYAC first round against City College of New York at 4:00 pm here at the Tomas D. Morales Field.
