The College of Staten Island men’s cross-country team recently put up its first race of the season at the Queensborough College Invitational, and after a tremendous run there, senior Luke Jackson has earned the conference’s Player of the Week honor, CSI’s first of the season in the sport.
In the 8k event that featured a total of 225 participants, Jackson came in with a race time of 29.11.1, good enough for 7th overall and tops among all CUNYAC four-year school runners. The time was just enough to pass Lehman’s Joshua Roman who finished just one second later. For Jackson, it was his third-fastest 8k time in history, and his second fastest at Van Cortlandt Park since racing with CSI. It was also the 22nd-fastest 8k by a CSI athlete in the program’s history, which dates back to 2007.
The Dolphins finished in 18th place out of 25 schools at Queensborough. They will be idle this week, and will resume their season on September 30 at their very own invitational at Clove Lakes Park in Staten Island on Saturday, September 30, at 11am.
