Staten Island, NY | The College of Staten Island swimming & diving teams hosted York College tonight for the final regular season meet of the season. Both the men and the women were able to cruise past the Cardinals 163-38 and 107-43, respectively. The men finished the season 5-5, 3-1 while the women finished 5-7, 4-2. Before tonight’s meet, we honored our seven seniors, Roberto Hildago, Chris Sorenson, Ayman El Haddad, Brandon Lei, Jessica Shaw, Victoria Crea and Ewa Wojciechowska.
Alicia Defonte, Lisnette Salano, Victoria Crea, and Ewa Wojciechowska got the meet started off on the right foot with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (2:08.78). Victoria Crea continued her string of first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle by taking the top spot by more than two seconds with a time of 28.18. Sorenson took a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.17 barely behind his teammate, Pete Carle.
Lei won his first race of the night when he touched the wall first with a time of 2:21.70 in the 200-yard IM. Following up that finish was El Haddad who had one of his highest outputs, scoring a 242.25 on the three-meter board. Hildago made no mistake to take a top finish in his last career home meet, scoring 9 points in the 100-yard freestyle (55.76).
Wojciechowska once again dominated her competition, taking the top spot in all three of her events. Wojciechowska beat her opponent by 15 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle.
The Dolphins finished off the meet winning the 200-yard freestyle relay on both sides.
Staten Island will now enter the CUNYAC Championship meet looking to secure a title. The men will look to win their fifth-straight title while the women will want to finish in the top-3 once again.
