The College of Staten Island served as the site of a groundbreaking announcement for girls high school athletics, as Borough President Vito Fossella welcomed in guests for the official press event to welcome in the new Staten Island High School Girls Basketball Championship Tournament. For years, the Boys’ Tournament has been a Staten Island staple, and now the girls will have their turn. CSI President Dr. Timothy G. Lynch kicked off the event with welcoming words, sharing how proud he is to have the College serve as the host of the Championship Game on February 3. The entirety of the Tournament, which takes place in multiple arenas on Staten Island, will also be live-streamed by Staten Island Community Television. Coaches and star players from most of the competing teams were on hand as well for the event, and took the podium to discuss how excited they are to be a part of history and how long overdue the tournament is.
