The College of Staten Island women’s volleyball squad saw their losing skid slide to three games this afternoon, dropping a trimatch in Wilkes-Barre, PA. First the Dolphins dropped a 3-0 decision to Immaculata University and then a 3-0 decision to Wilkes College. Immaculata scored 25-12, 25-6, and 25-11 wins, while Wilkes was able to come away with a win by scores of 25-10, 25-13, and 25-15. The losses bring CSI’s record down to 2-5.
In the opening game against IU, CSI was held to a season-low five kills on 53 attacks as IU was able to keep the Dolphins off balance and playing defensive the entire way. Victoria Wong tallied 16 digs but it wasn’t enough, as IU’s Arden Vizzard scattered eight kills and four aces to lead her team.
In the second game against Wilkes, again CSI just couldn’t get much going offensively. The Dolphins only had 9 kills as a team, but were held to just four through the first two sets. Vanessa Reyes would finish with the team lead with four kills, while once again Wong was the leader with 13 digs. Siobhan Granich managed two blocks. The balanced Wilkes attack saw four kills by Abby Sanders, while Juliet Betke finished with four aces and seven digs to lead her team.
CSI will next be in action at the Sports & Recreation Center on Wednesday, September 21. They will host St. Joseph’s College of Brooklyn at 7:00pm.
