Nikki Fabozzi of the women’s basketball and Javon Cox of the men’s basketball team have both been named CUNYAC’s Rookie of the Week in their respective sports. Both freshman have been an outstanding part of their team and especially so this week.
Despite the Dolphins two losses to Old Westbury and Stevens Tech, Fabozzi, helped keep CSI in the games. The Susan Wagner High School product had 12 points against Old Westbury shooting 4-for-8 from the field with two assists and two steals. Her performance against Stevens included 15 points, four rebounds, two assists and a block.
Standing at 5-9, Fabozzi is the 2nd best rounder on the team totaling 48 rebounds thus far this season. Starting in 9 of the 10 games she’s played in, she leads the team in steals with 29 and averages 10.8 points per game.
It was in the Dolphins Tournament of Heroes last week that Cox shined most. CSI took a 104-51 victory over Vaughn College in the first round with Cox totaling 15 points, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and 3-for-3 from the line. He added four rebounds and a steal in his 12 minutes of play off the bench. He played just 8 minutes in the team’s championship game loss to Illinois –Wesleyan added four rebounds and two points.
Cox has played in seven games for CSI, proving himself each time. Averaging 11 minutes in each of those seven games, he is currently shooting 60.9% from the field and averaging 5.4 points per game.
Catch both the men’s and the women’s basketball team on Saturday, January 7, as they host Brooklyn College. The women will tip-off at 1:00 pm followed by the men at 3:00 pm.
